Mr Satyajit (“Satya”) Bhattacharya is a Consultant Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Surgeon in London.
He qualified as a doctor in 1985 from Mumbai. His surgical training was initially in Mumbai and then at The Royal Free and University College Hospitals in London, where he specialised in HPB surgery. He was appointed Consultant Surgeon at the Royal London and St Bartholomew’s Hospitals (Barts Health NHS Trust) in 1999. He held that position up to 2020. He now practises primarily at The London Clinic.
As Consultant Surgeon at the Royal London Hospital, he helped set up a specialist HPB referral service for North-East London and South Essex and led that service for 17 years. Mr Bhattacharya was also the Medical Director of The London Clinic from 2017 to 2022. Mr Bhattacharya served as a surgeon to The Royal Family for over 16 years. He was the Serjeant Surgeon to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II from August 2016 until her death in 2022, and then to His Majesty King Charles III up to March 2023. He was awarded a CVO in 2023.
Satya Bhattacharya was an Honorary Reader at the Barts Cancer Institute, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) from 2016 to 2023. He has been an Examiner for the intercollegiate FRCS examinations in General Surgery. He has over 75 publications. These include the chapter on The Pancreas in Bailey and Love from the 25th to the 28th edition.
He has raised over a million pounds in funds for cancer research. He has published two collections of poetry, proceeds from which have gone to charity.www.sbhattacharya.com
