Tim was appointed Professor of Medical Oncology at the University of Cambridge in 2006. Significant areas of academic research include the first study of a BRAF inhibitor in melanoma, the identification of genetic risk factors for lung cancer and the development of VEGFR receptor inhibitors as a new standard of care for patients with renal cell carcinoma. In 2019, Tim was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences.
He is particularly interested in working at the interface between sectors as he has broad experience at senior levels in academia, clinical practice, industry and in charities. Currently he is on leave of absence from the University to work as Vice President and Global Franchise Head for GU & GI Oncology in Roche Product Development where he leads an international team of scientists and clinicians designing, conducting and analysing late stage. From 2014 to 2020, Tim was the Vice President of AstraZeneca Oncology Early Clinical Development.
