James is Associate Professor of Transplantation at University of Oxford and an Honorary Consultant Transplant Surgeon at University Hospital Coventry. He completed his medical training in 2005 from Leicester Warwick Medical School and obtained his Doctorate in surgery in 2015. He was an Academic Clinical Lecturer and Senior Clinical Research Fellow before being appointed Associate Professor in 2023. He leads organ perfusion research at the Transplant Research Group in Oxford and has a particular interest in organ preservation and ischaemia-reperfusion injury. He is involved in kidney and pancreas perfusion clinical trials and his research focusses on assessing and intervening in donor organs with the aim of improving outcomes for transplant patients. He has published widely in the field of transplantation and authored a number of book chapters on transplantation and dialysis access surgery. As a Consultant Surgeon his practice includes kidney and pancreas transplant, live donor nephrectomy, dialysis access surgery and organ procurement.
