Chris Lavy is Professor of Orthopaedics and Tropical Surgery at the University of Oxford and an Honorary Spine Surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. He devised his own training rotation in the beautiful cities of the world including Cambridge, Norwich, Oxford, Bath, Paris and Cape Town. His first consultant post was at University College Hospital in London then he moved to Malawi as a professor at the new medical school in 1996. In Africa he took an interest in spine surgery and as a response to the need built childrens orthopaedic hospitals in Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe. He helped set up the new College of Surgeons of East Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) in 1999. He returned to UK in 2006 and is an elected council member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, a fellow of Green Templeton College Oxford and a member of St Andrews Church Oxford. His interests include giving talks when invited, sailing, golf, and supporting Chelsea Football Club.
