Deborah Eastwood FRCS

As a student, Deborah was fascinated by growth and function and she grew up to become a paediatric orthopaedic surgeon. She work at two Institutions: one centred on the care of the child and the other, on the care of patients with musculoskeletal problems. This split lifestyle aids her understanding of the challenges faced by different hospitals within the single UK NHS.

She juggles the three facets of consultant practice namely clinical work, research and teaching mixed in with some medical management and national/international commitments. She is an Associate Professor at University College London and proud to have been recognized by trainees for her commitment to training. She is a past president of both EPOS and the BOA and has just joined the presidential line of IODA.

She enjoys writing and has contributed to numerous book chapters and authored many scientific papers: helping people to make a difference. Her role as BOA President 2023 meant she was at the forefront of ‘Caring for patients, Supporting surgeons and Transforming lives’ developing and maintaining innovative and sustainable solutions for training, research and clinical care with diversity, inclusion and engagement at the forefront of all plans.
